Wipro Consumer Care – Ventures, the venture capital arm of Wipro Consumer Care & Lighting, invests in promising startups in various sectors of consumer space. Key areas of focus are on companies in various sectors and sub-sectors of personal care, BPC, home care, wellness, food, pet care, etc. We see a large number of startups in these spaces having innovative approaches to building brands and meeting consumer needs in the effective and unique ways. Focus is clearly on strong founders having a view to build sustainable and scalable models, who are into this for the long term, and not necessarily short-term / short-cut focused.

We have seen extraordinary and deep shifts happening in the last decade in the consumer industry across various aspects and themes, and similarly forecast big changes and opportunities in the next decade too which can be capitalized upon by the strong startup ecosystem which has got developed over the years.

Geography wise we invest in India and South East Asia. Till now, we have invested in a number of companies which include The Baker’s Dozen, Anveshan, Gynoveda, LetsTry, Soulflower, Ustraa, LetsShave, Moom (Singapore), Youvit (Indonesia). We are also an LP in DSG Consumer Partners Fund IV which is a consumer focused VC fund based at Singapore.

Recently we made our first investment in pet care segment – in Goofy Tails. Our overall thesis is to invest in as well as support our investments where possible through our deep domain knowledge. With operations in multiple countries as Wipro Consumer Care & Lighting, we think we can help companies in a variety of ways and create value beyond capital. Our approach is to be a minority investor and function more like an external advisor to the company.

We had started our journey with Fund I, and subsequently have launched Fund II. The combined size of these two funds put together is Rs.4500 Mn. Till date we have made 15 investments in the startup and VC space from our fund.
